Starting the sleeping routine....

So..I decided that it was time to start a sleeping routine for Faitala. On Wednesday we moved his bed into his own room. I read about the "crying it out method" and without reading anything else or what anyone thought about this method I decided to try it. After a nice bath (Faitala loves his baths), I fed him while sitting in the glider in his room with some classical infant music. All seemed to go well until I laid him down. In the crying it out method it says not to allow them to fall asleep in your arms but to put them down while drowsy and let them learn to put themselves to sleep. Sounds simple enough right? Not exactly. After 5 minutes of crying I could not handle it so I went in and picked him up talked to him for a minute and then put him down for another try. 10 minutes later I, at this point am sobbing, go into his room, still trying to be faithful to the "method" sit by the crib and rub his tummy and talk to him. He did eventually fall asleep. However, when I went to get him in the morning he looked like he had been in a cat fight. His poor little face was all scratched up. His nails needed clipping apparently and I being the mean mom that I was just left him there to scratch anything his hands touched. Faitala loves to have his hands by his face so he lost this battle, which would explain much of the loud crying. Needless to say I am not a fan of the "crying it out method". I have since modified it to my liking and am happy to say we had a 7 hour sleep last night.

I'm glad you found something that works for you. We have yet to try the "crying it out" method with Addi. It worked great with Kagen. Can wait to hang out with you guys at the reunion!
